Working on a pitch (Part 2).

In a previous post I mentioned my plan to screenprint a limited number of vintage Subbuteo pitches with a commemorative design to celebrate this year’s World Cup in South Africa.

I’ve now received all the pitches, some dating as far back as the 1960s and have finalised artwork which was sent off this morning. I’ve received a huge variety of picthes and packaging so thought I’d post a few shots above.

It’s interesting to see how the Subbuteo pitch marking has evolved over time– from a subtle logo printed in the bottom right corner of a pitch, through to bolder capital letters in the 1970s, right up to the logo we see on the more modern pitches of the ‘80’s and ‘90’s.

The packaging too has evolved- beginning with the great little box shown above, moving on to today’s modern, mass-produced design.

I’ve secured London based Bob Eight Pop to do the hand bench printing process, who have been very helpful in getting everything ready. Fingers crossed, printing will start in just over a week- I’ll post some more images as it progresses…
