& It’s for charity.
There’s been quite a bit on the blogs lately about designers coming together to raise money for the recent earthquake in Haiti. Most of the publicity surrounds The Haiti Poster Project but today I fount out about Font Aid from SOTA, the Society of Typographic Afficionados. They’ve collaborated with nearly 400 designers and typographers to create the font ‘Coming Together’.
As their site describes, “The font consists entirely of ampersands, to represent the idea of people coming together to help one another”. Personally I think the concept is fantastic- it’s a very immediate way of helping, with a clever idea behind it. Meanwhile, the Haiti Poster Project seems to me to have quite a complex application procedure. (Though obviously the more people helping, the better).
The font is available for $20 from Veer, Ascender Fonts and FontShop today, and on MyFonts later this week. All proceeds go to Doctors Without Borders, to help with their relief efforts in Haiti.
