Turning Japanese.
A few weeks ago I entered a competition on SocialDesigner to create to identity for a Japanese gourmet fish brand called Kihoku. The company was setting up shop in the United States and wanted a logo to be used on their range of meals.
The identity I created (shown above) was based on the simple idea of combining bespoke type in the shape of a fish, with the famous rising sun represented in the ‘o’. Kihoku itself is a coastal town, famous for its views of Japan’s rising sun.
Sadly I didn’t win the competition, but the winning entry can be seen here. SocialDesigner then gives $2,000 to the winner and $1,000 to charity- quite a nice twist on your typical crowdsourcing design site.
I’m updating my projects in the Studio over the next few weeks so watch this space for more details on it.
